Daily Note

I thought the most embarrassing thing in the world was when my coworkers wished me goodluck at MACs when I was leaving the office Thursday and I had to look them in the eye and tell them, "I'm not running I'm just going up to watch". Turns out the actual most embarrassing thing in the world is having to look them in the eye on Monday morning and tell them that, "We lost to Messiah because our distance squad was simply not good enough"...............................

That being said, my heart goes out to all the guys who ran their last MAC championships this past weekend. I know I joke around a lot but in all seriousness there is nothing I wanted to see more than you guys go out on top. Last weekend was not a reflection of the commitment and brotherhood you guys have displayed over your careers at Widener. This family will always hold a special place in my life and I cannot thank you guys enough for that. I wish I could've done more for you guys, but I honestly believe that I contributed the least out of any man on the roster this year. If I could've figured things out sooner, maybe Dave wouldn't have to run the 10k in place of Tommy and we could've picked up more points in the steeple and 4x8. Unfortunately, I couldn't pull it together and I again became a reason we lack depth. I'm sorry........................
This year has been the hardest year of my life, and I believe the hardest year for our team since I've been at Widener. Looking into the future, I do not see it getting any easier. It is evident that Messiah is fitter, faster, smarter, and overall better runners than us. I can say with confidence that no man on our roster has the raw running ability to compete with that of Messiah. In total transparency, I do not know how will we beat Messiah from this point on. What I do know is that if the Messiah guy's alarm is going off at 6:30, then mine is going off at 6:29. If the Messiah guy is running 11 miles a day, then I'm doing 12. If the Messiah guy is staying off sugar, then I'm cutting every shitty food from my diet. If the Messiah guy is doing 100 pushups, 100 situps, and 100 pullups everyday, then I'm doing 101 pushups, 101 situps, and 101 pullups everyday. Even if the Messiah guy gets hurt and starts biking for 2 hours everyday, I'm finding a way to do all my miles and then bike 2 hours and 1 minute everyday. If I cannot outrun that Messiah guy, I will OUT-SUFFER him. And maybe if the Messiah guy runs his way 10th place in MAC, I will be able to OUT-SUFFER him for 9th.
