Daily Note

8K--24:56.7 (a 0.1 second PR) and 115th place. What a day. Many thoughts so I'll probably separate it all into two logs: this one for the actual race and Sunday for the season reflection.
Pre-race I could tell my body was a little off--stomach felt rocky, left hamstring was tight, left hip was still sore, extendo felt extra hard, and I felt good on the warm-up (never a good sign). Race got out hard, hung with Cullen for a bit but fatigue set in fast. Didn't have the mental edge I've had in previous races, maybe because I broke my rule of not thinking about the race before the race or maybe I just didn't have it in me today. Stomach became a brick halfway through and the rest was just pain, felt like I was moving in slow-motion even though I did move up place-wise. Mediocre kick.
While it's frustrating that I felt so bad, I'm not disappointed in my performance--I managed to hang tough and still technically even PR. Gives me confidence I would've smashed that PR had I been at the top of my game. At the end of the day, despite all the hype, the actual race was just another 8K--it was the people that made this day so special, whether that be the racing teammates, WashU alumni, or cheer squad in war paint.
