Daily Note

Thanks for the shoutout on Twitter, Coach! I don't use Twitter so it was actually Jacob who told me about it--"Your coach gave me a shoutout on Twitter." I think he's still a little miffed you guys beat DGN at State.
8K PR 24:56.8--just snuck under that 25 barrier. Could not have done it without WashU's dominant cheer squad so thank you to everyone who came, I always forget about the fatigue when surrounded by red and green. Boose especially seemed to know the best cheer spots because I always heard his voice on the spectator-scarce sections.
Race execution was very solid--got out hard with Michael, Cullen, and Patrick. With all the craziness and cheering I had to actively hold myself back and stay patient those first two miles. WashU pack eventually split up when Patrick took off and I faded a bit. Found myself playing all sorts of mental games to hold onto the edge of the big pack but still slipped more than I wanted to. Knew I could take everyone if I just hung on a little longer. Then came the magic of the 8K Patrick always talks about: people started moving backwards. No one responded to any move I made so just kept making moves. Unlike every other race this season I knew exactly where the finish was (despite someone shouting "800" at like 400 to go) so unleashed a very well-timed kick at ~300m and actually caught up to Cullen and Michael after devouring the rest of their pack. No idea what that last mile was or how many people I passed but definitely the best-executed mile of my 8K career. Great day but already gearing up for the final boss in less than 7 days.
