Daily Note

11AM: we are having a phenomenal stretch of sun here in sitka. this was quite possibly the best day yet. woke up & saw the snow dumped peaks glistening bright pink & orange in the morning sunlight. drove out to gary paxton to run out & back east on the dirt service road right next to the ocean. the colors seemed so vibrant. the air was clean, & the ocean & river water completely clear. melted ice & glacier water trickled off the cliffs right to the left of the road onto the road. mid 40s out & i quickly took off my olaf assassin's creed hoody to go shirtless & short shorts. a little tired from yesterday but felt great out there. the road is surprisingly hilly - 750 feet for my eight miles.
on my way back stopped at whale park, walked down to the water's edge, & sunbathed on the rocks for an hour. had the company of a humpback about a half mile away. oddly, the humpback liked staying in roughly the same spot. i watched its colossal tail dive then resurface five or so minutes later at least a half dozen times. made me smile each time it dove. two different sea lions also came within about fifty meters of my rock as well. very curious animals. later, did a cheeky little sunset hike with the AKfellows ellie, liz, kate, & anna, then went right to pickup soccer once again. super fun.
