Was very excited for this 2K cutdown workout going in, so disappointed it turned out to be a subpar off day. Conditions were perfect too. Wish I could have felt as I did last Friday, but frankly I felt the opposite. Hit 6:42 (5:22 pace), 5:16, 3:55 (5:13 pace), 3:16 (5:12 pace), 2:36, 1:54 (5:04 pace), 1:10, 53 (4:44 pace), 33. Rest was 2:30 walk/jog after the 2K, then 15s less after each subsequent rep (i.e. 45s rest after 300). Legs went lactic pretty early and I was already struggling at the beginning. After the 1200, I basically went lactic 600m into every rep. My aerobic system and breathing were fine though. Really had some negative thoughts floating around during the 1K and 800 that made me lose ground on the pack. After flushing those aside, bounced back for a fairly strong finish. This time by legs were fine but I was really breathing hard. Definitely a very hard workout and the times I ran were good but not great, but it definitely is tough to come up short after a great Friday workout. I think a combination of me having a head cold, not getting sleep for a few nights, and mileage made this subpar. I can control those three factors however, so I will make sure to rebound well for the upcoming weeks.
