Daily Note

Beat the depression today that keeps telling me I don't want to run. Finally it's just a few miles but it's a little break through none-the-less. Hopefully tomorrow works out!

Knee hurt the entire time and just pushed through it. I was determined to fight the depressive feeling/thoughts today. Didn't take my watch out so maybe that helped some. But still felt like I ran good.

    I just saw your "hit by a truck" heading and comments. You're ok I assume? That is crazy - I've dealt with a few inconsiderate jerks myself on the road between running and cycling - usually they just honk, finger gesture, or cuss me out though. I guess that is one of many reasons I prefer trail running to road running these days. I hope they nail him... Anyway, I received my first dose of humbling trail 50K experience at Stone Steps (one of the hardest 50K courses in Ohio with over 5200 feet of ascent/descent). From what I've been told, Germantown 50K is supposed to be easier than that one, but harder than John Bryan and much harder than Another Dam 50K. Dave Corfman (Stone Step's RD) told me last fall you should add about 2 - 2.5 min./mi going from a road marathon pace to the Stone Steps 50K course (due to hills, rocks, uneven terrain, etc.) and I'm guess Germantown will be 1.5-2 min./mi. for most people. Just look at it as a different challenge than road racing and don't get too discouraged about the slower pace. Good luck with the training!
