Daily Note

Walk/run shakeout with Marco, Peter, and Brad in the morning. Started the warm up earlier to get cooled down. Recovered pretty well from the 10k, but would feel garbage after sitting down for too long. Calves and hamstrings especially bad. Hips surprisingly good. Plan was to big chill and progress well and clean up. I knew we were up quite a bit at that point, so a lower pressure race, but still had the right mindset. Wore a hat because it was hawt. 5k in 15:17 or so, got 5th. Found out Marco wasn't racing 5 minutes before :( Figured that it would go out slow because of heat, so tried to find a spot on the rail. Was chillin in last for a bit. Made some moves to get better position, but people in that race were restless and would always surge randomly from behind. Nice to have Peter and Brad ahead of me to keep me focused. Really zoned out for the first mile and a half. Found myself with two Carnegie guys and pretty big gap to Brad's group, but Whetstone fell back so that helped to stay engaged and pushing. Battled the last 800 with the steeple Carnegie guy, he got me in the last 150, but a pretty good kick for me all things considering. Cool down on the grass and some stretching during awards. Really fun weekend. Going to focus almost 100% on recovering. MIGHT do in and outs before racing next. Amazing weekend, so many fun races.
