Objectively

Daily Note

Good Friday run. Argued about the objectivity of music with Christopher for almost the whole time. 4 strides in spikes felt good.

Reddit brought me upon a speech by Matthew McConaughey. Talks about the difference between happiness and joy. Jonathan touched on it in one of the meetings, but yung Matty described it in a different way (and in a way that resonates with me more). He states that happiness is result reliant (a win or lose situation), but joy is not a response, but rather a constant. It is found when finding enjoyment in the process of doing what we are fashioned to do. He goes on to say that we become more joyful when not doing something as a means to an end (i.e. doing something just to achieve happiness). I think at this point in my life, I'm shifting to doing things for joy more often than happiness. However, my mind is often so goal-based that sometimes I look so far in the future that the present seems meaningless. I want to improve loving the process of getting better as a runner, rather than just thinking about what could happen in the future. To love this sport is to love the routine to the fullest. I want to try to be more intentional in experiencing the small moments that make the big ones so special.
