Daily Note

Long run day. Was looking forward to going outside and definitely wanted to hit up NW Roads if the conditions allowed for it. Thankfully the wind wasn't too bad, so headed out there with a group of ten boys or so. Weather was 19 degrees and 9mph winds, while the sun went from fully out to a cloudy finish. On the way out, wind was an annoyance (coming from NW), but this made things on the way back nice. Group kept getting smaller as things progressed and by mile five it was just Justin and I, and a mile later, things turned into a solo effort. The first five miles got faster as we worked down from 7:22 to 6:34. Felt a bit faster than I would've liked to been going, but decided to stick with it. Sixth mile was slower at a 6:48 and from there on out things kept getting slightly faster. Made it seven and a half miles out on NW roads, which was the farthest I've ever gotten. You actually get to some rolling hills that are similar to radio tower. Pretty fun exploring some uncharted territory. Made this part of the run go by pretty quickly. Couldn't see campus when I turned around, but caught a glimpse of it about six and a half out, and boy did that hill look far away! Conditions at times were less than ideal with a decent amount of ice, but I'll take that over sloppy slush pretty much any day. Was feeling good in the legs as they weren't tired and cardio was just fine. This resulted in good rhythm. As is often the case with long runs, finished faster and brought home the final mile in 5:42. Didn't feel hard...was actually nice to let the legs go. This last mile was also easier thanks to a runner's high that developed the final three miles or so. Just felt very surreal and in touch with myself. Afterwards did calf raises, toe tappers, rolling, 100 bicycles, 15 sit-ups, 15 side-ups, 15 double leg eagles, & 20 out/back PUs. Great long run day! PF7s @ 39.0 miles.
