Daily Note

Tons of sleep last night...don't know why I was so tired, but every time I woke up this morning, decided I could use a bit more rest and just fell back asleep. Good stuff. Eventually rolled out of bed around 10am and did 60 push-ups, 20 squats, and 20x core circuit. Thursday practice today was back to the OG time of 3:50pm. Always a nice little change-up. Hit the updoors track w/ mostly Mike Finn and Trips. Fell back from the big pack after they started to take things below seven flat pace. My goal for today was keeping things nice and easy so that I'm feeling as ready/rested as possible for the Showcase 5K tomorrow. The legs felt quite fresh (though some tiredness kicked in from miles 6-7) and the cardio was the smoothest it has been in awhile. A good rhythm combined with solid conversation about interim and interim break helped things go by quite fast. Finished out the run at the bathroom, which hasn't happened in awhile. Guess dinner at El Tequila last night had its expected effects. Closed the day with the new indoor stride routine (spiked up of course): 2x100m, 1x200m, 2x60m. Actually managed to hit goal pace today of 36 for the two hundo, which was good! Doing those final two strides at a fast pace is quite fun. The spikes made the outside of my left foot hurt a bit. This was also the case walking around campus today...always seems to be the case when I wear my hiking boots. Calf raises, toe tappers, rolling, stretching, and 20 out/back PUs. Should briefly mention that my original plan was to go anywhere from 6.7-7.7. But my high mileage mind decided I needed to keep up my streak of at least eight miles a day. It's kinda weird...after four weeks, I've begun to realize that grinding out high mileage can easily become an addiction, especially if you don't have any races to worry about. Once you get out there for six or seven miles, you kinda just figure you can and should keep going. Gotta make sure I get out of this mindset with a taper being much needed as conference is only two weeks away. Today was the first run under an hour since December 6th, and to be completely honest it felt very short...almost like I hadn't done all that much/even ran. Should also mention tomorrow's race. I'm real interested to see how things go down. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intimated. Going in as the slowest seed with a 15:20 has me a little concerned. I know cardio wise I'm in sufficient shape, it's just a question of whether or not my legs will be ready to respond. Also gotta make sure I put the 9:08 3K out of my mind, so I can maximize my confidence come 2:55pm tomorrow. Kinda glad things got moved up seven hours, but not a huge fan of missing the first day of two of my classes. PF7s @ 431.6 miles.
