This quote from Craig Virgin pretty much sums up the race: "There's a moment in every race. How you react... will determine your destiny!" -Craig Virgin In school I had two test today in Modern and Physics which I was stressing over so it was nice to get those out of the way. After school I changed quickly, had a half peanut butter and butter bagel, and made it to the bus. When I got to the meet I was very antsy, nervous and excited and was going all of the place. I got some back, calf, and glute RPR. Then I rolled out and used my hamstring stretch band. I had to go to the bathroom before warming up. I then warmed up Alex, 5 out, 5 back. I felt pretty good we took the warmup a bit slower then usual but its okay. Then when we got back we started continous. We had a little less time then normal to warm up but not much less. I then spiked up and did fast. Did some strides and jumped around to try and get myself physched up. Then we went to the line. My goal for the race was to win and go sub 4:50. When the race started I got out in the lead with Alex Brown. Then after the first 100 I was in the lead. I then heard the GBN coach yell to the number 1 kid to do what he did in the 2 mile(he sat and kicked) so I knew this would be more of a tactical race I lead for the first lap and felt good. At the end of the first lap two GBN kids passed me and Alex went on my shoulder. One of the GBN kids started to seperate a little. I wanted to go with him but I couldn't because I was trapped. Then Alex started to go with him. The number 1 GBN kid(We'll call 1) then yelled to his teammate(We'll call 8 because of his seed number) that Alex was coming up on his shoulder. Which kinda pissed me off because he was talking while he was racing. I then moved up on the side of 1. But Alex started to seperate and I didn't go with him. Then with 800 to go I heard 2:22 which meant I was still on pace and Alex started to create a gap. I was trying to close the gao for the rest of the race but wasn't able to. Then sometime during the second half of the race I started farting but it wasn’t just a fart some poop cane out. It didn’t affect my running at all which was good. Then with 200 to go I was in third and 8 was in second maybe 10m ahead of me. I started to kick as hard as I could. With 50m to go I was on his shoulder and he kept moving farther and farther right as if he was trying to push me all the way to lane 8. But I ended up beating him and ran 4:52.39. I then ran 2 minutes of my cooldown then watched the 4x4's. After the 4x4 I finished my 2 mile cooldown on the track. I wasn't very happy with how I raced so I ran a fast cooldown. We then got the trophy for 1st place on varsity with 197 points and F/S got 3rd but other teams held people down to F/S. We then took a team picture then went on the bus back to DHS. On the bus Jack showed us some magic tricks which were VERY good. Fun bus ride. I then went to Denny's after we got back to the school. Back to the race I am happy I PRd but I felt like the conditions were perfect and I could have ran faster(sub 4:50) but I just let Alex get away. Shoutout to Alex for a great race. Take aways: -Always go with the move -You always have more left in the tank
