Daily Note

It may not have been my fastest 8k, but it was absolutely the best effort I've ever put into a race. When the gun went off, I got caught back farther than I wanted, and spent the first mile making up significant ground. This took a toll, but I was still feeling good. For the second mile, I locked my eyes onto our pack and started whittling away at the gap. This took a major toll. It was right around the two mile mark that it felt like I hit the wall. My legs would not go any faster. For about half a mile, I stayed the same distance behind the pack, repeatedly trying to speed up and failing. For a moment, I thought it was over and that I was just in for a bad race. But then I realized one very important thing. Those guys were still up there, and I had not yet fallen back. This race was not over. With some sort of hidden energy source, I broke through the wall and pushed myself up to the pack, meeting them at the three mile mark. As soon as I did, Naren made his move and took off in an instant. I did what I could to try to chase him, but after spending so much just to get to the pack, I didn't have enough left. The last mile and a half was a battle of sheer willpower as I once again found myself out of the pack, this time between them and Naren. I knew though that if I wanted even the slimmest chance of making UAAs, I had to close it out and finish the race hard. I was able to do so, holding off a late push from Christian and a Georgia Court guy, and I stumbled across the finish totally spent. It was definitely the most exhausting race I've done, both mentally and physically, but I'm extremely happy that I was able to push through what I thought was an impenetrable wall. This season has been an incredible experience and I've been able to become a much better runner. I'm beyond happy with what I've been able to do and would be completely content if this is where the season ends. As a team, we stepped up big today across the board. Super proud of the boys for the wins. As always, the watch splits: 5:04, 5:10, 5:11, 5:12, 5:04
