Daily Note

Back to Billy Hayes. Got to the track around 2pm and shook out 10 min for my 5:35 race. Had a bit of a situation before the warm up. Went to check in and realized I had been moved to the slow heat for some reason. Looked like they added a couple of unattached IU runners and decided to kick out the D3 guy. Told Stiles and we went to go talk to the meet director. After him and stiles arguing for 5 min he finally added me to the faster section. Seeing as I’m not a confrontational person, I think this might’ve taken a little somethin out of the emotional container pre race. But it also got me a little angry so maybe it evened out. Regardless, not something I want to deal with before a race. Did a 15 min warm up with a 60 sec extendo on the upper track and lacrosse fields. Felt great. Weather was absolutely perfect. Race got off hot thanks to a rabbit and I found myself in last for the first 300 (45.9). Did the thing where you pass a couple people and think you’re running faster but I just ran 62.6 for the next three laps for 3:53.73. Need to close that last 3-400 better. Lost a mental battle with 300 to go. Also need to find a way to run on the rail more in a race like this. Felt like I was on the outside on lane 1 the whole race. Afterwards finally convinced stiles to let me do a little workout. 3x100 sprints with full recovery. Hit them all in 12.2ish. 15 cool down then warmed up with Nick for 15 min. Today was another step in the right direction. Haven’t gone out that aggressively since last season so I think it’ll help out out a lot the next two weeks. Regardless, wish I was able to take advantage of the perfect conditions and great competition a little more. Grateful to be healthy and racing.

That's horseshit. Guess the rumors of D1 coaches trying to keep D3 athletes out of their guys' races have some truth to them.
