Randy The Pacer-Half Marathon

Daily Note

Today was a day. For preparation, I woke up at 5:10 and hydrated and ate a tomato as some source of energy. Then I layed down for some time then got ready. I went red brooks short-shorts and THE Caruso singlet. Picked up Asher at 6:20 and got there around 6:40. We checked everything out and went on a warm-up. We warmed-up 0.75 roughly around downtown highland park which was cool. It smelled good. Got back and did continuous with the gang and soon enough, I was lined up and ready to start. Air horn blares and I stick with the 7:30 pacer guy. His name was Randy and was super chill. He bragged about doing half marathons and marathons all the time and how he was going to do a 100 mile run soon. Very fascinating guy. I was feeling pretty good, no stomach issues, no cramp, nada, nothing. From mile 1-6 everything felt fine which was a good thing. It was also cool to see someone Deerfield peeps cheering us on so thanks guys! Then mile 6 rolls around and were standing on top of HP hills. We go down the one on the right and go up the one on the left. At this point Randy just randomly started to sing so that was an experience in itself. In usual tradition, Asher, Satyr, and I screamed a random word at the bottom and we got some confused looks. I screamed basement. Went up the hill and then I decided that it was time to pick things up and ramp up the intensity. I started to make a gradual increase in speed and Asher+Jonah followed. We sped up a good pace, but I have no idea what the pace was because the mile markers were just wrong. Then I looked around and lost Jonah and Asher so I just kept going. Then came mile 9-12 which were the worst parts of this run. Not because of how I felt (yeah my legs were dead but not the point), but because this part of the course sucked. It was just one giant loop and ugh it was horrible and BORING. Soon enough I finally got out of that loop and rounded to the finish. Finish was uphill and I had a kick in me so I kicked. Came in at a 1:32:51 (7:05 pace). Legs were gassed, I chugged a bunch of water, but man was I satisfied. Then I chugged some nuun #NotSponsered and went on a cool-down. Brutal cool-down, my legs refused to move fast so 10:00 pace felt like race pace. Got back, did a brutal stretch, and dipped. Very fun and exhausting race, glad I did it. Now I gotta start studying. Zadical.

Summer miles: 18.85
